Safety and Rear-Facing Car Seats

As we start to figure out how to install those stinkin’ car seats properly into our little Honda Civic (miraculously, THEY FIT!), this seems particularly important and well-timed:

The American Academy of Pediatrics has updated their recommendations for rear-facing car seats: they now recommend keeping children rear-facing until they are 2 years old, or are too tall or heavy for the seat (ours go to 30 pounds).

You can read about it directly from the AAP here.

Modern Parents Messy Kids also has a really good write-up of the new recommendations and their importance here. Plus a cute sleeping kiddo picture!

That’s great that they upped the rear facing requirements. One year was too young in my opinion. I figure if it’s safer, why not keep them that way for as long as possible?
